Animal control officers from Millis, Massachusetts launched an investigation after multiple reports came in about a local female breeder. Many people said that she was neglecting her dogs and had given them deplorable living conditions. Most of the dogs were sick from lack of nutrients and being exposed to their own filth.
The authorities heeded the reports and started collecting evidence. The official investigation and filing of cases came after the breeder brought a dead dog to a local emergency vet’s clinic. The officers got a warrant within several days, and they raided the breeder’s property.
Multiple charges
All in all, the animal control officers retrieved 28 Golden Retrievers. Most of them were adults, joined by a litter of puppies. As there were lots of them, the local shelter made an agreement with Sweet Paws Rescue, a nonprofit animal charity organization, and turned over all the rescue dogs to their care. Volunteers from the rescue group were more than happy to get the poor dogs and give them their needs.
As for the breeder, she was arrested and was charged with four counts of felony animal cruelty. Prosecutors said they would add multiple felony cruelty charges as soon as they started documenting the case and getting more evidence.
A better future
In a post on social media, Sweet Paws Rescue said that the dogs might look well on the outside, but they all suffer from various medical issues. They have medical conditions that include heart murmurs, ear and eye infections, parasites, skin problems, matted fur, and lots more.
All of the rescue pups will undergo treatment and undergo behavioral training. And before they are even considered to be put up for adoption, they will undergo evaluations, get vaccinated, and get spayed or neutered. This will mean a lot of time and effort, but the generous volunteers are more than happy to do their job and give these lovable dogs the future they deserve.
