Tracey Dove, a dental assistant living in Cullman, Alabama, was devastated when she discovered that her one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer named Charlie was missing. She had a feeling that someone had gone into her property and stole the expensive dog.
Updated microchip
She had always spoiled the hunting dog, and it pained her to be away from him. Her eight-year-old son also adored the brown and white pooch, and she knew that would be greatly upsetting for him to learn that their pet is gone.
Tracey and her son looked all over their community and even got help from their family and friends. The years passed, but there was no sign of Charlie. And although she sometimes lost hope that they would somehow find him, she constantly updated her contact information on her pet’s microchip. Especially when she moved her residence to Birmingham.
That proved to be a wise decision.
250 miles away
Renee Jones is an animal rescuer that lives in Brewton, Alabama. One day, her neighbor said that she saw a weak dog lying on the steps of their church. The senior pooch rarely moved, and he had a large mass growing on his chest. Renee, a director of a nonprofit rescue organization, called on their volunteers to fetch the dog and take him to an animal clinic.
There they found the microchip.
The rescue group was happy to find that the information was updated, and they got in touch with the owner right away. The owner’s name is Tracey Doves. And she was shocked to learn that Charlie was found and is still alive. It had been 10 years since he was gone.
The nonprofit rescue group has already started raising funds to get Charlie surgery. Tracey will make sure she will make the 250-mile drive to Brewton and be by her dog’s side when the operation happens. Hopefully, he will come out well, and they can return to their home and live a happy life.
