Thom Lambert has always wanted to add a dog to their family. He has three daughters, and he knew that they would love to have a furry friend living with them in their Washington Township home. Sadly though, his wife, Melissa, wouldn’t agree to have a pet. She said it would be too much work for them, especially with three little girls to take care of.
To appease her animal-loving daughters, Melissa would frequently take them to the local shelter where they could play with the dogs and show them some love. She was content spending hours staying in the shelter and going home after that. But then, her mind changed when she met a Treeing Walker Coonhound named Edgar.
A new furry friend
Melissa was smitten with the handsome pooch. He was very friendly, and more importantly, the shelter dog was laid back. He wouldn’t be too much to handle, plus Edgar was great with her daughters. He was very patient with them.
Thom was ecstatic when he found out that his wife had a change of mind. They quickly filed for adoption. Little did they know that they weren’t just getting a new family member. They were also getting a hero that would save their little girls from an abductor.
A good boy
Not long after Edgar was adopted, the family attended an out-of-town funeral. They arrived home late at night. A few hours after going to sleep, the easy-going pooch started to act out of character. He started barking frantically and running around. He was agitated and growling at something in the dark.
Thom woke up and investigated. While he was going downstairs, he heard hurried footsteps. He realized that someone was in the house, and he started opening the lights and grabbed two knives from their kitchen. That’s when he saw that a window and a door were open.
The worried dad called out to his wife and told her to call 911. He then checked on his daughters. Thankfully, they were all safe. When the cops arrived, Thom learned that a little girl living in their neighborhood had been kidnapped a few days later. They suspected that the same man was responsible for breaking into the Lambert’s home.
After a few days, the police caught a 20-year-old man who admitted that he was the one who broke inside Thom’s home. He said that he was there to abduct one of the little girls. But thanks to Edgar, his plans were thwarted.
