A lady who worked at a shopping mall was about to start her day when she spotted a Shih Tzu in the nearby parking lot. Instantly, she decided to help by offering the dog some food and water. Later that day, once her shift was done, she went to check on the dog only to find out that it didn’t even touch the food she left.
The kind woman sought help and connected with Milan, the lead rescuer of the charitable group Dog Rescue Shelter, Mladenovac. She told him what the matter was and he did not hesitate to lend a helping hand. He quickly drove and met with her, and she led the way and showed him where to find the dog.
The poor dog was completely shut down. It was motionless and didn’t even react when the rescuer approached. Covered with its own poop and urine, it became rancid, sticky, and pretty filthy.
Milan wasted no time and took the dog straight to the rescue center. He comforted the little dog and assured it that he will do whatever it takes to turn its life around. On their way, he decided to give it a new name and called it Pepi.
Pepi was weak and sick, which was probably the reason why he ended up on the streets. But thankfully, he didn’t have any serious medical conditions. He needed some time to rest to slowly regain his strength. Physically, he was fine, but emotionally, he was still a mess.
For five days straight, Pepi did nothing. He didn’t even eat or drink. He just watched everything that happened around him. But when he saw the other rescue dogs playing, he felt curious.
The young Shih Tzu stood up and walked around the rescue center for the first time. He played with the other dog and made new friends. About a week later, he ate on his own and finished his meal.
Pepi lost his will to live when he lost his family. Thanks to his rescuer and his newfound friends at the rescue center, he found new hope to live again.
