DAR Animal Rescue got a call about a dog that needed help. Apparently, the dog’s owner, who was an elderly woman, died. She had relatives who lived nearby, but the dog was left alone because no one wanted to take it.
The dog, now named Freddie, loved his mom so much. He sure had a great life with her and she most certainly adored him the same. Sadly, their good relationship lasted for only a year because his mom got sick and never recovered.
Without knowing that his mom was gone for good, Freddie stayed inside the yard of their old home. He ate food scraps the neighbors gave him and he slept on the cold ground at night. Despite his challenges, he remained such a loyal dog and waited for his mom. But it was then time for him to move on.
Rescue volunteers of the said group were granted entry into the property but none of the elderly woman’s relatives was available to unlock the gate for them. So, they needed to go over the fence just to get inside.
Freddie was happy to see people but he felt a little startled when the rescuers made it inside the yard. He ran away from them and he hid under an old RV parked inside the lot. He tried to keep his distance but the rescuers made it difficult for him to keep on hiding.
With some tasty food on hand, the responders lured the dog out of its hiding spot. They waited for the perfect opportunity to completely secure the dog. Once they captured it, they placed it in a travel crate and whisked it straight to the vet’s office.
The 1-year-old dog remained at the hospital for several days for observation. Once the vets were certain that he was 100% healthy, he joined his rescuers at the shelter.
Freddie will stay with his friends at DAR Animal Rescue for as long as necessary. Until he finds his new family, he is certain to never be on his own again.
