A foster volunteer named Phaedra was shocked when she saw a stray white dog get hit by a car. The impact was so strong the poor pooch flew over the side of a bridge and fell 14 feet into the small river below. The Mexican woman was certain that the canine wouldn’t have survived the horrific experience, but she still had to check.
When she and her husband went down to where the dog was, they were amazed to see the canine was still alive. But she couldn’t move her rear legs. They picked the animal up and immediately took him to a specialist.
Choices
After a thorough examination, the vet had grim news. He said that no surgery or procedure would help the dog walk again. The injuries were extensive, and there were only two options left. The first is putting the pooch to sleep, and the second is to get him a wheelchair so he can get around.
Phaedra knew there was no way she would let the dog die. So she chose the latter option and got the dog, which she named Speedy, his own set of wheels. From the moment the canine got hitched to it and realized he could move on his own, he showed signs of happiness.
Forever home
For the next few weeks, Speedy stayed with Phaedra, her family, and her pets. The dog blended well with everyone, but the kind lady knew that the pooch would be better off living elsewhere. She lived in a small town with cobblestones everywhere and no dog parks. The canine couldn’t enjoy his mobility.
Fortunately, a dog trainer from California eventually got in touch with Phaedra, and they got to talk about Speedy. It turns out that the woman owns a dog in a wheelchair as well.
When the Mexican rescuer said that Speedy was not living his best life, the trainer offered to adopt him. Phaedra agreed.
Speedy soon moved across the border, and he is now living near the beach. One of his favorite activities is running around the sandy shore with his new best friend. He is now truly living the best life he could have.
