It is not easy to rescue a stray dog from the streets, especially since they tend to avoid human contact. So, when a couple attempted to rescue a stray dog and her litter of puppies, they had to be creative.
Karlee Anderson and her partner, Jon, were living on the South Korean island of Jeju when they learned that a stray mother dog lived nearby. It wasn’t unusual for them to see stray dogs on the island, but they wanted to check on the mother dog themselves.
After a fast ten-minute trip from their home to the reported location, the couple arrived at a construction site where trash and wood were thrown out. The location was in no way ideal for a nursing dog and her young puppies. In addition, they learned that the facility would shortly be demolished.
Therefore, the couple thought it was best to bring them home with them. However, when they went in search of the dogs, they discovered the puppies hidden beneath the woodpile. Their mother was nowhere to be found.
Karlee and Jon intended to lure the puppies out first so that their mother would follow. With food and water, they finally lured the puppies out of the woodpile after several days of trying. The animals were first wary of humans, but soon warmed up to the couple.
However, the same cannot be said about their mother. She avoided Karlee and Jon at all costs and was terrified of all humans. The pair even attempted to capture her and force her to jump into the car where her babies were, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
One day, one of the villagers who lived close to the construction site proposed an absurd scheme. He would transport the puppies to the couple’s residence by placing them in his truck and driving there. He believed that the mother dog would follow him.
When the couple attempted the local’s suggestion, they were amazed that the dog did follow the vehicle. They drove very slowly to make the journey easier for her and made numerous stops so she could relax.
When they arrived at the residence, the mother dog was still wary of the couple, but she slowly warmed up to them.
The couple fostered the puppies until they were old enough to be adopted, but the mother dog that they named Hinsoona, remained with them.
