It’s not surprising to see senior dogs become less physically active. Since a 15-year-old dog is equivalent to a 70-year-old person, they are likely to prefer resting more than anything else. Even so, some senior dogs defy expectations in terms of health and vigor.
Sootdal is a senior dog who lives with his owner, an old lady that most people call “Grandma who dives” or simply Grandma. They have a very peaceful life together near the sea. The owner isn’t lacking in terms of the care she provides for Sootdal.
One day Grandma noticed that Sootdal was behaving differently. Back in the day, Sootdal always followed her whenever she went out diving for sea urchins. Nowadays, the dog prefers to stay at home. Furthermore, he doesn’t seem to enjoy being touched by Grandma anymore.
When a friend of Grandma visited her, Sootdal was more enthusiastic about interacting with that person. This behavior hurt the old woman’s feelings. She thought that perhaps her dog did not like her anymore.
Grandma tried everything she could to restore her dog’s enthusiasm. She tried preparing Sootdal’s favorite meal, which is seafood. However, the dog did not seem interested. He took a few bites but never finished the meal.
A veterinarian went to Grandma’s home to find out if Sootdal suffered from any illness. It was a good opportunity to find out what caused the dog’s behavior to change. This also meant that a solution would be presented.
According to the veterinarian, Sootdal was perfectly healthy. In fact, he is healthier than most senior dogs. The cause of his shift in attitude was just laziness. The dog simply did not want to do anything stimulating anymore, which is understandable.
Before the vet left, he gave Grandma some vitamins to give Sootdal. The woman was happy with the result of the visit. Moving forward, Grandma would continue to care for Sootdal regardless of his behavior.
